Dear WEA Bargaining unit members,
As many of you know, we have been at impasse in bargaining since earlier this year, and a neutral mediator released the District and the Association to fact finding on May 31, 2019. During our negotiations sessions throughout the year, the Association and the District signed an MOU on grievance procedures and evaluations on November 28, 2018. On July 19, 2019, the Association and District signed an MOU to continue through school year 2019-2020 with the modifications on evaluation procedures which was originally signed on July 19, 2018.
The Association agreed to meet with the District on three (3) separate days this summer during uncompensated, non-contract time (the District’s contract time) to work on reaching a resolution prior to filing the paperwork for fact-finding. We were unable to reach an agreement during these meetings. On July 30, 2019, the Superintendent posted the series of proposals from both the Association and District on the District’s website. It was the goal of the Association to meet in person with WEA Bargaining unit members just after the start of the school year to go over what happened during summer negotiations sessions, review the proposals from both teams, and answer any questions from our members.
Through the links in the Superintendent’s July 30th email, you will now be able to read what transpired during the summer sessions. The Association will still have the general membership meeting on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at the PHS Theater to discuss these proposals. [See news on the meetings for August 19th and August 26th to present a new tentative bargaining agreement!] Please plan to attend.
It continues to be the wish of the Association and the Negotiations team to meet with the District during the month of September 2019 to continue working towards reaching a resolution.
Thank you,
WEA Negotiations team,
Bobby Rogers
